Industrial Design
Industrial design is a wide-ranging profession. Its practitioners may work in highly divergent fields but what they have in common is the development of products and services in which the focus is on form giving/gestalt and where the production is large-scale. This year’s degree projects reflect the breadth of the students’ individual choices. For example, there are products that augment biological diversity in Swedish agriculture, utensils that add emotional values to the meals of astronauts and a new category of product that can enable greater haptic quality in the digital communication that forms part of distance relationships. In addition there are another six interesting projects, each with its own specific and personal focus.

The choice of project has been made by each student. Some want to seize the opportunity to advance their own knowledge through a more traditional industrial design project. Others have taken the chance to explore domains encountered less frequently by professional industrial designers. What they all have in common is that they are based on this question: How can I use my professional expertise to make existence better and more meaningful? Being able to place themselves in the situation of a user that is totally different from their own requires empathy, receptivity and imagination. Making proposals that solve complex problems requires insight, creativity and courage. Finding one’s way step by step through the sometimes unfathomable design process requires purposefulness and a professional approach. The students graduating here have demonstrated all these qualities!
