‘How could the child be integrated in the situation when a close relative is in palliative care?’ This has been the fundamental issue in Stina Wessman’s thesis work which has resulted in her exhibited work ‘The Blanket Book’. Palliative care is caring at the end of life and the most common activity relatives do when visiting kindred in palliative care is to sit around the bed and talk about everyday life. There are many boundaries in the situation when someone close is being cared for at the end of their life. You might not know what to say and the whole situation can be perceived as frightening from a child’s perspective. In order to offer relief to the relatives, the patient and especially the child, Stina has created an including, playful and interactive solution for the relatives with her project, ‘The Blanket Book’.
”Hur kan barnet integreras i sammanhanget när en nära släkting erhåller palliativ vård?” Detta har varit den fundamentala frågan i Stina Wessmans avhandling, som har resulterat i utställningsverket ”BäddBoken”. Palliativ vård är vård i livets slutskede och den vanligaste aktiviteten för släktingarna när de besöker familjemedlemmar i denna vårdsituation är att sitta runt sängen och tala om vardagen. Det finns många barriärer när en närstående vårdas i livets slutskede. Man kanske inte vet vad man ska säga och hela situationen kan ur barnets perspektiv upplevas som skrämmande. För att kunna erbjuda lindring åt släktingarna, patienten och i synnerhet barnen har Stina skapat en inkluderande, lekfull och interaktiv lösning för släkten genom sitt projekt ”BäddBoken”.
