I wanted to grasp the opportunity to shed light on an important issue and found myself confronted with the question of how it is possible to convey a story through form and function; a message for the onlooker to take part in and be inspired by. Design, as opposed to Fine Art, is most often judged by its form or function while its social and political message and/or implications are easily forgotten in the process of optimizing products for mass production and maximized profits.

“In a decaying society, art, if it is truthful, must also reflect decay.
And unless it wants to break faith with its social function, art must
show the world as changeable. And help change it.” ~ Ernst Fischer

Through contrasting idioms and materials as well as relations between the different elements of the piece, the intrusion of industrialism and limitless exploitation of natural resources – which so far has taken place as a result of increasing population and human greed – is played out. It seems all too easy to find faults in human interventions in our surroundings; Nature, which we since childhood persuade ourselves that we are not part of. However, in the realization that we are in fact a very young part of a greater whole, lies the profound morality. Through humility, optimism and human ingenuity we can overcome previous wrong-doings and create a brilliant future not only for ourselves but for the nature with which we are one.
